A personalized combination of procedures — designed around your body, your priorities, and your definition of feeling like yourself again.

Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding are among the most profound physical experiences a woman's body undergoes. The changes they leave behind such as deflated or asymmetric breasts, separated abdominal muscles, loose abdominal skin, and changes to the waistline are not signs of failure. They are signs of what your body has been able to do. But for many women, these changes persist despite dedicated exercise, healthy eating, and time, and they stand in the way of feeling comfortable and confident in their own skin.

A Mommy Makeover is a personalized surgical plan that combines the procedures most relevant to your areas of concern into a single, thoughtfully orchestrated surgical experience. The name is colloquial; the surgery is serious, substantive, and one of the most comprehensive and satisfying transformations in plastic surgery.

Dr. June Yoo approaches every Mommy Makeover with the same foundational principle that guides her entire practice: there is no template. Your body changed in its own way, and your surgical plan will be designed around what your anatomy actually needs — not a standard package.

Mommy Makeover

A Mommy Makeover is a customizable combination of surgical procedures performed in a single session to address the physical changes associated with pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. While the exact combination varies significantly from patient to patient, the most commonly included components are:

  • Breast surgery — augmentation, lift, reduction, or a combination

  • Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) — with diastasis recti repair and skin removal

  • Liposuction — for contouring of the waist, flanks, hips, thighs, or other areas

The primary advantage of combining procedures is practical: one anesthetic exposure, one recovery period, one set of pre- and post-operative requirements, and often a meaningful reduction in total cost compared to staging each procedure separately.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

Pregnancy and breastfeeding affect the breasts in highly individual ways. Some women experience significant volume loss, leaving deflated, ptotic breasts that augmentation alone can address. Others experience volume loss combined with significant descent of the nipple-areolar complex, requiring augmentation mastopexy. Some women find their breasts are larger than they wish after having children, making reduction the most appropriate solution. And in some patients, asymmetry that was manageable before pregnancy has become more pronounced and bothersome.

Dr. Yoo will evaluate your breast anatomy, degree of ptosis, volume, skin quality, and your aesthetic goals to determine which approach is right for you. The most common breast components of a Mommy Makeover include:

Breast Augmentation — for women who have lost significant volume and have adequate skin tone and nipple position.

Augmentation Mastopexy — for women who have lost volume and also experienced significant descent of the nipple and breast tissue. This is one of the most technically demanding procedures in aesthetic breast surgery, and the decision to perform it simultaneously or in staged fashion will be discussed in detail during your consultation.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy) — for women whose primary concern is shape and position rather than size, who wish to restore a more youthful breast contour without adding volume..

Addressing the breast in Mommy Makeover

The abdomen is the area most universally affected by pregnancy, and the area where exercise and lifestyle changes most consistently fall short of restoring what was there before. Three distinct changes typically require surgical correction:

Diastasis recti — separation of the rectus abdominis muscles along the midline, which creates a persistent abdominal bulge that cannot be corrected through core exercise. This is repaired as a standard component of abdominoplasty, suturing the muscle edges back together and restoring core integrity and a flatter abdominal profile.

Excess abdominal skin — the stretched skin of pregnancy rarely fully retracts after delivery, particularly following multiple pregnancies or significant weight fluctuation. Abdominoplasty removes this excess skin through a carefully placed, low incision designed to remain concealed beneath underwear and swimwear.

Contour irregularities — fatty deposits in the lower abdomen, flanks, and waist that persist despite lifestyle measures. These are frequently addressed with concurrent liposuction to produce a more refined, circumferential result.

The type of abdominoplasty most appropriate for you depends on the degree and distribution of your skin excess, whether diastasis is present, and the position of any existing abdominal scars. Dr. Yoo will evaluate each of these variables at consultation.

Addressing the Abdomen

Getting the timing right is one of the most important aspects of Mommy Makeover planning.

Complete your family first. Future pregnancies can stretch repaired abdominal muscles, re-loosen skin, and alter breast results. The Mommy Makeover is designed to be a lasting investment; it makes the most sense when you are confident your family is complete.

Allow adequate recovery after your last delivery or breastfeeding. Most surgeons recommend waiting at least six months after delivery and until breastfeeding has completely stopped. This allows breast volume to stabilize and reduces the risk of milk duct-related complications.

Reach a stable weight. Body contouring procedures produce their most lasting results when your weight has been stable for at least three to six months. Significant weight gain after surgery can stretch skin and alter contour. Significant weight loss can leave residual laxity. Arriving at your surgery at a weight you can realistically maintain is one of the most important things you can do to protect your outcome.

Pause GLP-1 medications appropriately. Patients currently using GLP-1 receptor agonists for weight management should discuss timing, dose adjustment, and perioperative management of these medications with Dr. Yoo and their prescribing physician before scheduling surgery.

Timing: When Is the Right Time for me?

Am I a Good Candidate?

You may be a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover if you:

  • Have completed your family and are not planning future pregnancies

  • Are at or near your goal weight, with a stable weight for at least three to six months

  • Have stopped breastfeeding for at least three to six months if breast surgery is planned

  • Are a non-smoker or have fully ceased smoking well in advance of surgery

  • Are in good overall health without significant uncontrolled medical conditions

  • Have a BMI that falls within a safe range for elective combined surgery (generally below 30, though this is evaluated individually)

  • Have realistic expectations for natural, proportional improvements across multiple areas

  • Have adequate support at home for a two to three week assisted recovery period

Patients who are still actively trying to lose weight, planning future pregnancies, or using nicotine in any form are generally advised to optimize these factors before proceeding.

Recovery & Results

Mommy Makeover recovery reflects the combined scope of the procedures performed. Patients should plan for a more substantial recovery than they might anticipate for a single procedure, and should arrange for meaningful practical support during the first two to three weeks.

In the first week, rest is the priority. Drains are typically placed and managed during this period, and most patients are limited to light ambulation and basic self-care. Most patients are able to return to desk work and light activity within two to three weeks. Exercise, lifting, and strenuous activity are restricted for six to eight weeks, with gradual reintroduction guided by Dr. Yoo at follow-up visits.

Swelling from combined abdominal and breast surgery can take three to six months to fully resolve, and final results continue to refine over this period. Compression garments are worn during recovery to support healing and optimize contour.

One of the most common frustrations in Mommy Makeover recovery is the pace of visible change. The transformation is real and significant — but it emerges gradually. Patients who understand this timeline and approach recovery with patience tend to report the highest satisfaction with their final result.

Your consultation with Dr. Yoo

Your Mommy Makeover consultation is a comprehensive, thoughtful conversation. Dr. Yoo will take a full surgical and obstetric history, evaluate each area of concern, discuss your goals and priorities, and develop a surgical plan that addresses what matters most to you — within a scope that is safe for your individual physiology.

Key decisions you will make together include:

  1. Which procedures are indicated based on your anatomy, concerns, and goals

  2. Sequencing and scope — what can be safely combined in one session vs. what should be staged

  3. Breast component — augmentation, lift, reduction, or combination, and technique selection

  4. Abdominal component — full vs. mini abdominoplasty, diastasis repair, and incision planning

  5. Liposuction — which areas would benefit and can safely be addressed concurrently

  6. VTE risk stratification and prophylaxis protocol — individualized to your risk profile

  7. Recovery planning — support needs, childcare, return to work, and activity timeline
