Non-Surgical Rejuvenation (Botox and Filler)
Neuromodulator and filler treatments administered with an injector's precision and a surgeon's understanding of facial anatomy.
The most natural-looking injectable results don't come from a syringe, they come from the hand behind it. Understanding how the face ages, how volume shifts over time, which muscles drive dynamic wrinkles, and where the critical vascular structures lie requires a depth of anatomic knowledge that goes beyond technique. Dr. June Yoo brings surgical-level expertise in facial anatomy to every injectable treatment she performs, translating that knowledge into results that refresh your appearance without announcing themselves.
Neuromodulators and dermal fillers are the two most commonly performed minimally invasive aesthetic procedures in the United States. When selected appropriately, administered skillfully, and combined thoughtfully, they can meaningfully turn back the visible signs of facial aging, and serve as a powerful complement to the surgical results Dr. Yoo creates.
Neuromodulators (BOTOX®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and More)
What They Do
Neuromodulators are injectable formulations of botulinum toxin type A that work by temporarily preventing targeted facial muscles from contracting and relaxing the dynamic wrinkles those contractions create. When injected precisely into the appropriate muscles at the appropriate depth, the result is a softened, more rested facial expression that looks natural because the underlying mechanism is natural: the muscle relaxes, and the overlying skin follows.
Dynamic wrinkles are the primary target of neuromodulator treatment. These are distinct from static wrinkles (present at rest, driven by volume loss and skin changes) and cannot be fully addressed by neuromodulators alone.
FDA-Approved Neuromodulators We Offer
The products we offer differ in formulation, unit potency, onset, spread, and duration. Dr. Yoo selects the product best suited to each patient's anatomy and treatment goals:
Botox Cosmetic (OnabotulinumtoxinA) — The original and most extensively studied neuromodulator, with FDA approval spanning glabellar lines, lateral canthal lines (crow's feet), and forehead lines. Onset within one to two days; duration approximately three to four months.
Dysport (AbobotulinumtoxinA) — A formulation with a greater tendency to diffuse from the injection site, making it well-suited for larger treatment areas. Onset approximately two days; duration approximately four months. Not directly unit-interchangeable with Botox.
Xeomin (IncobotulinumtoxinA) — A "naked toxin" formulation free of accessory complexing proteins, which theoretically reduces the risk of antibody formation and treatment resistance over time. Onset within five to seven days; duration three to four months.
Jeuveau (PrabotulinumtoxinA) — An FDA-approved formulation optimized for glabellar lines with a clinical profile similar to Botox Cosmetic. Onset within two to three days; duration three to four months.
Differences between products are generally subtle and often have more to do with formulation, dosing unit conventions, and individual patient response than with major differences in clinical outcome. The choice of product is made by Dr. Yoo based on your anatomy, the areas being treated, and your individual history with neuromodulators.
What to Expect
Results from neuromodulator treatment typically become visible within two to five days of injection, with full effect apparent at two weeks. Duration ranges from three to four months for most formulations. Retreatment frequency varies by patient, area, and product — patients who maintain a consistent treatment schedule often find that results last progressively longer over time as the targeted muscles gradually atrophy with repeated disuse.
There is no meaningful downtime following neuromodulator injections. Minor bruising or swelling at injection sites may occur and typically resolves within a few days.
Dermal Fillers
What They Do
Dermal fillers restore volume, contour, and structure to areas of the face that have been affected by the hallmark changes of aging: loss of fat, bone resorption, and descent of the soft tissue compartments. Where neuromodulators address dynamic wrinkles by relaxing muscles, fillers address volume-related changes by physically restoring what has been lost.
The most widely used and evidence-supported fillers in aesthetic medicine are hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. HA fillers are reversible: if a result is unwanted or a complication occurs, hyaluronidase can be used to partially or fully reverse the filler effect.
What Fillers Treat
Nasolabial folds — the lines from the nose to the mouth corners
Marionette lines — the lines from the mouth corners toward the chin
Lip volume and definition — including lip augmentation and border refinement
Cheek and midface volume — restoring the high cheek fullness characteristic of youth
Temple hollowing — a common and frequently overlooked sign of facial aging
Jawline and chin definition — structural contouring without surgery
Nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty) — subtle reshaping of dorsal irregularities or tip projection
Of note, because the nose is one of the highest-risk anatomic regions for vascular complications following filler injection, this procedure requires an injector with deep familiarity with nasal vascular anatomy and a clear emergency protocol. Dr. Yoo's surgical background makes her particularly well-suited to assess candidacy and administer this treatment safely.
How Long Fillers Last
Duration varies by product, anatomic location, and individual patient factors:
Lip fillers: typically six to twelve months
Nasolabial and marionette folds: twelve to eighteen months
Cheek and midface: eighteen to twenty-four months
Jawline and chin: twelve to twenty-four months
Tear trough: twelve to eighteen months (product selection is particularly important in this area)
Filler placed in areas of high movement metabolizes more quickly than filler placed in structurally stable areas.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Most healthy adults who are bothered by dynamic facial wrinkles or volume-related changes are candidates for neuromodulator and filler treatment. A thorough consultation is the appropriate first step — not all facial aging concerns are best addressed with injectables, and Dr. Yoo will be direct with you about when a surgical solution would produce a more appropriate or lasting result.
Certain conditions may affect candidacy or timing, including pregnancy, breastfeeding, active skin infection at or near the treatment site, neuromuscular disease (for neuromodulators), and a history of prior filler reactions. A complete medical and medication history will be reviewed at consultation.
Injectable appointments at June Plastic Surgery are conducted with the same care and precision as any consultation at our practice. Dr. Yoo will review your goals, assess your facial anatomy and aging pattern, and develop a treatment plan tailored to what will genuinely serve your face — not a menu-driven approach.
Most injectable appointments take thirty to sixty minutes. Results from neuromodulators become visible within two to five days. Filler results are immediately visible, with final appearance apparent once swelling has resolved, typically within one to two weeks.
Post-treatment instructions are reviewed at every appointment. Patients are advised to avoid vigorous exercise, excessive heat, and facial pressure for the first twenty-four hours following treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I look frozen or overdone?
Only if the wrong amount is placed in the wrong location by an injector who does not understand your facial anatomy. Dr. Yoo's approach to neuromodulators is to soften expression rather than eliminate. The goal is never immobility; it is balance.
How do I know if I need filler, a neuromodulator, or surgery?
The right answer depends on what is actually driving your concern. Dynamic wrinkles at rest respond best to neuromodulators. Volume loss, hollowing, and deep folds respond better to filler. Significant skin laxity, structural changes, and descent of the facial soft tissues are more reliably and durably addressed with surgery. Dr. Yoo will assess your face honestly and recommend the approach that will genuinely serve your goals. She will never recommend an injectable treatment when surgery would serve you better, and she will never recommend surgery when injectables are sufficient.
Is filler reversible?
Hyaluronic acid fillers are reversible with hyaluronidase. Non-HA fillers including calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse) and poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra) are not directly reversible, though their effects are temporary and fade over time. Dr. Yoo uses primarily HA fillers for most indications, in part because of their reversibility profile.
What is the risk of blindness from filler?
Blindness from filler is rare but real. More than 190 cases of retinal vascular occlusion have been reported in the published literature, and approximately 95% of those patients suffered permanent vision loss despite treatment. The risk is highest in the glabellar, nasal, and periocular regions, where arteries communicate directly with the ophthalmic circulation. Dr. Yoo takes this risk seriously, uses anatomy-driven injection technique in all high-risk zones, and maintains hyaluronidase on hand at all times.
How often will I need treatment?
Neuromodulators typically require retreatment about every four months. Filler longevity varies by product and anatomic location, ranging from approximately six months for lip filler to twenty-four months for structural cheek filler. Patients who maintain a consistent treatment schedule often find that intervals can be extended over time.
Can injectables be combined with surgery?
Yes, and this is frequently the most effective approach to comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Injectables and surgery address different dimensions of aging and combining them allows for treatment of the full spectrum of concerns. Dr. Yoo will advise on appropriate timing of injectable treatments in relation to any surgical procedures planned.
