Breast Augmentation
Achieve a fuller, more balanced silhouette — results that feel as natural as they look.
Breast augmentation is one of the most transformative procedures in plastic surgery — and one of the most personal. Dr. June Yoo approaches every augmentation with a deep respect for your unique anatomy, aesthetic goals, and lifestyle. Whether you're looking to restore volume lost after pregnancy, improve symmetry, or simply feel more confident in your body, Dr. Yoo will guide you through every option with clarity and care.
What is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation — sometimes called a mammoplasty or "breast aug" — enhances the size, shape, or symmetry of the breasts. This is most commonly achieved through the placement of silicone or saline implants, though it can also be performed using your body's own fat through a technique called autologous fat grafting.
Patients seek breast augmentation for many reasons: to add fullness to naturally smaller breasts, to restore volume following pregnancy or significant weight loss, or to address asymmetry that has affected their confidence for years. Many patients choose to pair augmentation with a breast lift to simultaneously restore a more youthful position and contour.
At June Plastic Surgery, no two augmentations are alike. Every plan is built around you — your proportions, your goals, and your vision of natural.
Breast Augmentation Options
Implants + Lift (Augmentation Mastopexy)
If volume loss has also left your breasts with a lower or deflated appearance — particularly following pregnancy or weight changes — breast augmentation can be combined with a breast lift (mastopexy) for a comprehensive rejuvenation. This "masto-aug" approach restores both fullness and a more youthful breast position in a single procedure.
Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation
For patients who prefer a natural alternative to implants, fat grafting offers a subtle, implant-free enhancement. Fat is harvested from a donor area — commonly the abdomen, flanks, or thighs — and carefully transferred to the breasts. This option is ideal for patients who want a modest increase in size with the added benefit of contouring the donor site. One or more sessions may be needed to achieve the desired volume.
About the Procedure
Dr. Yoo takes great care to place and close every incision in a way that minimizes visible scarring. Two approaches are available depending on your anatomy and goals:
Inframammary Fold: The most common approach. The incision is placed within the natural crease beneath the breast, keeping the scar discreet and well-hidden.
Periareolar: The incision follows the border of the areola, blending naturally with the pigment transition. This approach works well when a slight lift or areola refinement is desired at the same time.
Implant Placement
-
The implant is positioned behind the breast tissue but in front of the pectoralis muscle. This placement tends to have a shorter recovery and can work well for patients with adequate natural breast tissue.
-
The implant is placed beneath the pectoralis major muscle, which can provide additional coverage and a more natural upper pole contour
-
The implant is placed partially behind the muscle in the upper breast and behind the breast tissue in the lower breast. This hybrid approach combines the advantages of both techniques and is Dr. Yoo's preferred method for most patients — offering a natural shape and reduced rippling.
Implant Type and Size
-
Silicone gel more closely mimics the feel of natural breast tissue, making it the most popular choice for patients seeking a soft, natural result. Pre-filled to a specific volume and shape, modern silicone implants use a highly cohesive gel that maintains its form even under stress.
-
Saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater after insertion, allowing for some adjustability in volume. If a leak occurs, the body safely absorbs the saline — and the change in volume is immediately noticeable, which simplifies detection.
-
Implant sizing is one of the most important — and most personal — decisions in breast augmentation. Dr. Yoo's philosophy centers on proportionality: the goal is not the largest possible implant, but the right implant for your frame, chest width, and desired outcome.
Implants are measured in cubic centimeters (cc), not cup size. During your consultation, Dr. Yoo will measure your breast base width and discuss your aesthetic goals in detail. Together, you'll identify a size range that enhances your natural silhouette.
Recovery & Results
Most patients return to light activity and desk work within one week. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for six to eight weeks. It is normal for implants to appear higher on the chest initially — over the following weeks to months, they will settle into their final, natural-looking position.
Dr. Yoo provides detailed post-operative instructions tailored to your specific procedure and closely monitors your healing at follow-up visits. We remain available throughout your recovery to answer questions and support you as your final results emerge.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
There's no universal answer — and that's exactly why a thorough consultation matters. Dr. Yoo will take your measurements, discuss your aesthetic goals, and help you identify a size and profile that is best for you.
-
A lift may be recommended if your breast tissue sits low on your chest wall. Dr. Yoo will assess this during your initial consultation and discuss whether a combined procedure is the right approach for you.
-
For most patients, breastfeeding ability remains largely unchanged after augmentation. There is a slightly higher risk of breastfeeding issues with the peri-areolar incision, which will be discussed if relevant to your planning.
-
Most patients retain normal nipple sensation after breast augmentation. A temporary decrease in sensitivity is common in the early recovery period, and sensation typically returns within a few months to a year.
-
Because each procedure is individualized, pricing varies based on surgical plan and implant type. Our team will provide a detailed estimate following your consultation. June Plastic Surgery has financing options available.
